Which Type of Mattress is Right for You?

If you've been out shopping for a mattress lately, you've probably already noticed that a variety of construction options exist at almost every possible price. So, which one is best for you?

There are three broad categories of mattress construction:

  • Innerspring
  • Memory Foam
  • Memory Foam Hybrid

You are probably most familiar with the traditional innerspring construction, where a series of linked springs form a single unit. This design generally offers the most attractive prices, while still delivering the long-lasting and comfortable performance you expect as a consumer.

An individually wrapped coil spring mattress offers a more contoured support for your body and less motion transfer when your partner is tossing and turning.

Memory Foam mattresses go even further in their ability to contour support for you body. In fact, they are so good at suppressing motion transfer that it's almost impossible to detect your partner turning over only inches away.

Memory Foam Hybrid mattresses use memory foam for the upper, comfort layer, and some variation of either innerspring or individually wrapped coil springs in the lower, support layer. This style offers a happy compromise for the consumer who feels that a traditional memory foam mattress is comfortable, but doesn't provide the underlying support or "feel" that they're used to.
